Learning to drive is a major milestone in a teenager’s life. Augusta Technical College provides a Georgia Department of Driver Services approved driver’s education program. We are an authorized provider for the Georgia Driver’s Education Commission (GDEC). The program includes 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 additional hours of drive time with an instructor. Participants must be between 15 and 17 years of age and possess a State of Georgia Learner’s Permit. Participants must attend all class dates for the entire class period. They must also complete all six (6) hours of behind-the-wheel driving.

Did you Know?
We recommend you start supervised driving now! Students should complete at least 25 hours of driving and review the Student Code of Conduct with a parent/guardian before starting a Driver's Education course.
The Georgia Driver’s Education Commission (GDEC) has a scholarship program in which parents may apply directly online for a driver’s education scholarship. Parents/Guardians may apply for GDEC's scholarship at http://www.gahighwaysafety.org/georgia-drivers-education-grant-scholarship/
Parents/Guardians will need to apply for the scholarship directly from the GDEC.
Parents/Guardians will need to create an account for their student and register before they can submit a Driver's Education application packet.
Upon award of the scholarship, students will be provided with a redemption code and may choose a course provider from a list of authorized driver training schools to redeem the scholarship. (NOTE: Redemption codes must be redeemed within 30 days of award date.) Augusta Tech is an authorized training provider under the scholarship program; however, GDEC scholarships are NOT awarded by the college. Therefore, we will not be able to answer questions about the process nor check application or scholarship status. Any scholarship inquiries will need to be directed to GDEC.
